Career Step Medical Coding Training on Track for New ICD-10 …
PROVO, Utah—August 7, 2014—Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training, is pleased to announce that its Professional Medical Coding and Billing curriculum is on track to have students prepared for the newly announced October 1, 2105 ICD-10 implementation date.
“When the mandated ICD-10 implementation date was delayed until October 2015, one of our primary concerns was for our students who were currently training for medical coding careers and how it would impact their career plans,” said Jerolyn Robertson, Career Step Vice President of Academics. “We responded quickly to ensure our students would still be prepared for the workplace they would be entering. With the announcement of the new implementation date last week, we are pleased to confirm that our training will prepare students to begin working before and after the implementation of the new code sets.”
Career Step’s Professional Medical Coding and Billing program teaches students how to use the CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9 codes sets. Then, upon graduation, students receive an additional ICD-10 FastTrack course that teaches them to code with the new ICD-10 code set. This two-step approach prepares students to earn industry certifications—even if they graduate before the exams are transitioned to ICD-10—and to help with any dual coding their employer may be doing before or after the implementation.
“Our commitment remains first and foremost to our students,” said Career Step CEO Steve Tober. “We understand the significant investment in time and additional training as our students are working toward their career goals. We have done everything we can to ensure that all of our students are prepared for the workplace—no matter which code set is in use.”
The medical coding and billing training available through Career Step teaches students everything they need to know about healthcare and coding to successfully start a new career. The online program can be completed in as little as four months, and students have access to one-on-one support throughout the course as well as after graduation as they are working to turn their education into a job.

Online Medical Billing And Coding Certification Programs Are …
One industry that remains on a steady climb is health care. People in general are living longer as science constantly comes up with cures for diseases that were once considered a death sentence. Even better is that this has created jobs in a number of areas. One way that a person can get their foot in the door would be to complete one of many online medical billing and coding certification programs that will teach the necessary skills needed to succeed in this field.
In comparison to the twentieth century, people from all walks of life are living longer as well as more productive lives. The elderly and chronically ill are more active due to a number of factors. Once fatal diseases like AIDS and cancer can be managed to where there is a greater life expectancy. Even newly discovered diseases can be cured in a short time with the proper research.
The movement to get people to consume fresh foods as a way to fight disease and be productive has never been more emphasized. Those from around the world have joined this mission with hopes for a better life. Having medical facts and other findings available in a number of mediums has helped when it comes to the public taking notice about their health.
While much credit can be given to doctors, scientists, and other major players, there is one group that is often overlooked. It takes money to perform research, provide nursing staff for patients, and even those who manage records for a medical facility. Without a solid billing system in place, many organizations would miss out on the opportunity to make changes in the lives of people who are not in good health.
Ever changing developments in the healthcare industry affect the way services are billed, as the process can be complex and requires training. The person responsible for this task needs to be good with numbers, understand medical terminology, and have no problem going over details. It also helps when they can work with time restrictions, as it will speed up the funding process.
Though some people have strong opinions about healthcare changes, nothing will stop them from seeing a medical professional if something is wrong with them or a member of their family. They will cut back in other areas or simply do without a tangible item if finances are strained. For many, compromising health is not an option.
This could mean stronger job stability compared to industries like hospitality, personal services, and sales. Skills gained, like working knowledge of medical terminology, can be transferred to other departments where there is a shortage of staff. Being flexible is asset that employers consider when hiring administrative personnel.
While going to school or training can have challenges, there are often great rewards in the end, such as a good job and other perks. These days, there are many options that allow students to balance studies with family or work life. Upon completion, graduates may find a number of opportunities that include telecommuting. With the willingness to learn and have self discipline, one may find many entry level jobs working in health care.

Original Article: Top 7 Reasons You Should Consider a Career in Medical Billing
by Austin Marks
There are great reasons to consider a career in medical billing and coding. This field is an exciting and growing one and offers opportunities for great earnings and advancement with relatively little education. Here are the top seven reasons a career in medical billing and coding may be right for you.
1) Flexibility of job positions. Medical billers and coders have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of job environments. If you like the idea of working in a small doctor’s office with a familiar staff of friends, it is relatively easy to find such a position.
On the other hand, if you want to work for a large hospital or company, those jobs are out there, also. You can literally pick almost any size and type of job environment, including working from home, and make that desire a reality.
2) Ease of training. While medical billers and coders have to be specifically trained for their jobs, the training involves a relatively short period when compared to other jobs in the medical field, and the payoff is far more substantial than for many short-term training positions.
With only two years of training, your earning potential will far exceed that of many positions, even in the medical field, with similar educational demands. Best of all, with the wide variety of programs available for training medical billers and coders, you can finish your training in almost any amount of time.
3) Great salary. Most medical billers and coders make a good salary, especially after a few years on the job. While some of your salary is dependent on location and other external factors, a large determining factor in how much you make is up to you. By getting certified and searching out the best jobs, you can substantially increase your salary and open the door to further earning opportunities.
4) Responsibility and respect. Medical billers and coders are some of the most important people involved in making a doctor’s office or hospital profitable.
As a medical biller and coder, you can literally make the difference in whether your employer makes a living or must close his or her office by how you do your job. Because of the importance of this job category, most employers want to hire the very best medical billers and coders and are willing to pay them accordingly.
5) Opportunity to certify. Certification equates with professionalism, and medical billers and coders have several opportunities to achieve national certification that is recognized by medical personnel across the country. Becoming certified can be the key to opening great job opportunities for you as a medical biller or coder.
6) Work you can do anywhere. As telecommuting becomes more common, more medical billers and coders will work from home or remote locations. This may be a very big concern for mothers with small children, for example. By working from home and saving babysitting fees, you may actually double your earning power as opposed to going out and working in an office.
7) Enjoyment. While medical billing and coding may not seem, at first glance, to offer opportunities for excitement, many medical billers and coders note that they get to work with and talk to a wide variety of people every day, making their jobs very enjoyable.
They also get to use their problem-solving and interpersonal skills to enhance their job performance. Medical billing and coding can be a challenging and exciting career if you approach it with the right attitude.
