*****must be AHIMA or AAPC certified*****Certified medical record coders needed for the on-site coding of Inpatient, Inpatient Professional Services, and Ambulatory Procedure Visits medical services provided to Government beneficiaries.
Inpatient coders shall review a minimum of 20-30 records per day depending on complexity through the Coding Compliance Editor (CCE), along with other responsibili! ties as requested. This may include providing feedback on coding guidelines or documentation requirements, coding encounters not documented in AHLTA, such as clinical notes documented in Essentris, including Inpatient professional services, and being available to respond to coding inquiries.
Provide productivity worksheet reflecting on-going summaries of total number of records coded and submitted for billing.
Provide feedback addressing inappropriate patterns of documentation and coding.
Provide daily activity reports.
MUST be certified through American Health Information Management Associations (AHIMA) or American Academy Professional Coders (AAPC) with a MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS CONTINUOUS Inpatient coding experience required.
Job Requirements
MUST BE CERTIFIED, HAVE MINIMUM OF 2 YEARS OF RECENT AND CONTINUOUS INPATIENT CODING EXPERIENCE and have the following specific skills:
- Knowledge for understanding and ap! plying the official coding clinic guidelines
- Knowledg! e of medical terminology and usage, including general medical, surgical, pharmaceutical, hospital terms and abbreviations and abstracting techniques
- Knowledge of a broad range of references such as the ICD-10, ICD-9-CM, CPT, HCPCS, medical dictionaries, manuals relating to coding textbooks and glossaries
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements of medical records
- Knowledge of medical records procedures, regulations and principles to carry out a variety of medical records functions such as analysis, coding, ensuring compliance, and compiling data
- Knowledge of data collection methods for basic health care, research information and statistical reporting
- Knowledge of laws and DoD/MHS/WRNMMC regulations on the confidentiality of medical records
- Ability to review a minimum of 20-30 records per day depending on complexity through the Coding Compliance Editor (CCE), along with other responsibilities as clinical staff reque! st
- Ability to 40 hours per week – Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, exact hours to be determined
- Ability to pass a government background check
- Ability to pass a drug screening
