The Coding Supervisor will manage and coordinate the activities and staff of the Coding operation of Facility. Ensure inpatient and outpatient records are coded accurately, completely and timely according to Coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, facility policy and state/federal regulations. Oversee coding education and preparedness for conversion to ICD-10. Provide leadership and expertise to other departments that have coding or coding-related functions such as Registration, Billing Reimbursement, Risk Management, Case Management and the clinic offices. Effectively uses information technology and workflow design to efficiently manage work flow. To effectively fulfill the requirements of this position a candidate is required to have a certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS). Completion of a formal coding education program is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field is preferred. Prefer previous supervisory experience in coding, and five or more years of coding experience in an acute care setting. Also prefer previous physician office/professional billing experience. Current knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT. Knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, abnormal test results, disease processes and pharmacology-drug names. Knowledgeable regarding MS-DRG’s, APC’s and official coding guidelines. Candidate must demonstrate the ability to operate coding assistance programs and to research coding guidelines through electronic tools. Strong written and verbal communications skills are a must. Solid understanding of Microsoft Office products including; MS Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel are required. Demonstrates initiative to accept additional leadership responsibilities as required.
