The Inpatient Coder shares responsibility for maintenance and care of all medical records; releases information to individuals or agencies in accordance with hospital regulations and statutes of privileged communication; maintains daily record of admissions and discharges; keeps file of daily discharges; prepares a file folder with medical record number, tags year on first admission, lists dates of admission/discharge on folder, stickers for advance directive, confidential stamp; analyzes abstracts and codes discharged medical records on daily basis; locates charges and various other medical reports for physicians, insurance personnel, nurses, etc.; maintains death register; checks charts for completion to be filed; assists in training new employees; performs other tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: 2 – 5 years of experience in Health Information coding or related field; Certification as RHIA, RHIT, or CCS preferred but not required.
